tweed mini

As I'm writing this, I'm sitting on my bed after driving home from having dinner with two best work friends and two new ones :) We no longer work together, but we got together for Mexican food tonight and one of them had her sister's in town! It was so fun! And so good, because queso. I'm lucky to be back where my childhood bestie is, but it's amazing to have new friendships, too. I think it's so important. Every city I've lived in, I've always moved there alone for college, but I always had a really close group of girlfriends that came together along the way. I'm still friends with some of them and regardless of whether or not we still are, I've loved what we did have at that time.

And social media definitely helps. I love seeing what everyone's doing because most of us are in entirely different phases of life!

This tweed mini is so fun and I questioned on whether or not it was too short to wear to work. It is short. But I kind of just go with it. I spend most of my day in a tiny office with two other women, so why not? And it's really different. It's ruffled with a raw hem, yet the fit and material makes it feel work appropriate, especially with the white oxford [ my fave from BR ]. It also looks great with a short sleeve sweater!!

5 things for spring

Whenever I have to be somewhere in a hurry, this is what I wear. I don't even have to think twice about it. The best bf jeans ever, I seriously wear them with everything. And this simple ruffle tee is from Zara; the sleeves make it a little less basic and I loved how it looks with my bomber jacket, which I kept with me in case I got cold when going in and out of buildings with the AC on.

I've been thinking about what I want to add in to my closet for spring and I kind of just want more easy basics that will update and elevate my wardrobe. I'd thought I'd share 5 things on wishlist!

1. High Waisted Pants | in a soft color + flattering fit; perfect for work. I've been loving this style!
2. Twill Trench | I'm going to Seattle in May, how perfect is this?!
3. White Flats | I think they're so chic. And I've had my eye on these.
4. Pretty Blouse | How pretty are those details?! I need more of this in my closet.
5. Denim Shorts | I always struggle with denim shorts, but I really want to try these!

I posted this photo on Instagram earlier, but I thought I'd list the links on here, too!

paperbag pants

I've always thought paper bag pants were so cute, but on other people. And then I found these on a random Forever 21 whim and I loved them! I ended up buying them to wear to work. They're so good; feels like wearing pajamas, yet they look like I've got my life together. Some of the styles I've tried before had a really wide leg and I think I just prefer a more tailored fit. But the best part is the waist. The ruffle with the bow tie makes the outfit, I just tucked in a long sleeved tee and added my favorite accessories. My favorite mules that I wear with most everything, this white bag that I love because it's neutral, but really bright, and these gold hoops that are really light and fun!

Also, I almost never walk into Forever 21 to shop. There's so much and every F21 I've been in is disorganized, so attempting to focus on finding something leads to meandering around the store, flitting from rack to rack and never actually making a decision on anything. But the other day, I walked in and found these pants. I didn't buy anything else, but I found a lot more online! And I feel like with stores that carry a lot of trend pieces, sometimes less is more. I'd rather find one or two really great things every once in a while, instead over buying and never wearing.

Here's what else I found!
Duster [ still available in blush ] | Striped Shirt Dress
Cropped Trench [ I wish this was still available in my size! ] | Blouse [ love the buttons! ]
Striped Dress [ need! ] | Strappy Top [ pretty! ]

about the fit

I was really unsure about this post, but I wanted to write it because I love sharing the things I love and I've been loving these bras. I had been struggling with bra fit for a while and part of that was going way too long without a fitting. As I'm on the smaller side, I was struggling to find the right fit that didn't gape or feel too big or feel unflattering overall.

I've collected Aerie's loungewear and basics for a while now, everything is so soft and delicate and my style. I love the joggers, chunky knits in the winter, bralettes, and easy tee's. And it's all in the best color palette's - navy, white, grays, blues, rust, blush...

Their bra's are so soft and have a delicate, pretty style. I really like the Sunnie Demi for everyday wear. It's a really great basic and they can under almost everything. There's a subtle push-up, which I prefer. And it's the softest ever. I bought both the grey and nude and both color variations are gorgeous. I think Aerie does that really well, their fabric and color way's always make you want to buy everything in every color.

I also bought the Summer Strapless in cream. Balconette style bra's are my fave. And I usually keep the straps on them, however I needed a strapless bra the other day and this one held up so well. It stayed in place and was really comfortable! The lace and mesh overlay on this bra with the scalloped edge is the best detail and I know I say this all the time, but it's so pretty.

For what it's worth:
1. Get a fitting; ask for a fitting and if you aren't doing so already, change into a t-shirt and a simple bra, like a demi / t-shirt bra. The store will give you one if you aren't wearing one.

2. Be fitted in the actual fitting room. Seems like a no brainer. But I've seen people be fitting in the middle of a store and that's when they aren't taking into consideration what you're wearing and it's more hurried / less comfortable. Plus, it's not always the case, but if there's someone doing fitting's in the fitting room, chances are they're more seasoned at it than someone on the floor.

3. Before I got fitted, I grabbed a few bras in different sizes and tried them on to see what I liked. Then I was fitted and it turned out that the size I needed was what I liked most. So sometimes, you won't be too far off.

4. All bras are like this, but especially Aerie, hand washing / air drying is best.

I have a small bucket that I fill with a little bit of cool water, add in some of this and then let them soak for 15 minutes before rinsing. I gently roll out the water with a thick towel and let them dry on a rack.

happy valentine's day

Happy Valentine's Day!

I've already said how much I love Valentine's Day. And my office bestie's and I are doing a Galentine's gift exchange and pizza day today and I'm so excited for it. One of them is leaving in a little over a week for a new opportunity and it feels like this is perfect timing. I drew her name and we've actually worked together the longest; she was there when I first started and I'm so happy that we're friends now, too! I think celebrating friendship is just as important and while you don't need a designated day to do it, Valentine's day gives you a good excuse.

This blouse is really fun. I love the cut, although it's cropped, so wearing it to work requires a high waisted bottom, but it's so flattering. It nips in at the waist, has a flutter sleeve and a ruffle neckline. It's delicate and pretty and I want it in all the other colors. It even comes in a dress and how pretty would it be with these slingbacks in white?

The print on this is actually lips and it's subtle, but kinda perfect for the day this post goes up! :)

downtown days

I haven't had this dress for very long, but I feel very comfortable writing that one thing every girl should have in their closet is a black t-shirt dress. You can do anything with them! Especially if you're someone who doesn't like to have think about what to wear, this is a great option. Once you have the dress, your other details will pull together so easily. My denim jacket and converse are two pieces that I've had forever and wear constantly, but I also think an embellished bootie [ I've had my eye on these ] with this cream moto jacket or a neutral handbag would be amazing for springtime!

I hope everyone had an amazing weekend! Mine turned into a 3-day weekend as I took a personal day on Friday. My dog was sick all last week and by Thursday, I was starting to feel run down from taking care of her, working, life...  But I'm so excited for this week! My co-worker's and I are doing a Valentine's Galentine's gift exchange and we're ordering pizza :) And there's another three day weekend for President's Day!

oh snap

This outfit top is a bit out of my comfort zone. It's cropped, has a raw hem, hardware on the sleeves. It's more than I would normally be willing to try, but I love it! I've been wearing it with dark denim and booties and this could easily be what I wear all spring. And it just happened to be a super gloomy day when we took these photos, how perfect for this outfit?

I normally don't wear cropped tops, but I think the key for me is keeping everything super simple and minimal. These jeans with my favorite booties made it really easy to style and I can also picture it with my favorite boyfriend jeans in a lighter wash!

on 14th street

I feel like it's a mixed bag with Valentine's Day. Some people love it and some people hate it. I love it. It has nothing to do with having a significant other, because more often than not, I don't. I love pink and red, glitter, heart shaped everything, friendship, love. And for those who believe it's a holiday made up by Hallmark. I also love Hallmark. Christmas movies aside, that company has a really amazing history and it essentially started with an 18 year old in 1910 selling postcards. The postcards led to selling valentines and Christmas cards as a way to build a life and pay off debt. They added more as their company grew larger!

As for the dress :)

I found this red dress on sale at Nordstrom and while it's sold out now, I compiled some similar options below. I also included two pink options in case red isn't your color. I love this dress. If I could choose one style of dress to wear forever, it would be a shift dress. And the best part about it? The bow-tied sleeves! I've been dying to wear this dress as soon as I opened the package, it's so good! A few things I love in a dress? Sleeves, but a shorter hemline. Interesting details, but unfussy. Quality fabric.

These flats are from Sole Society and I think they are the only shoes that I've never had to break in before. So. Comfortable. I ordered the dark grey and while I did have this dress in mind when I was buying them, I've worn them with a ton of other outfits. They are perfect for work and clearly I have a thing for tie details...

1. a similar tie sleeve dress   2. red ruffle ots dress   3. ruffle sleeve shift dress   4. pink ruffle dress
5. topshop tie dress   6. ruffle sleeved shift   7. pink ots   8. lace ruffle sleeve dress

Who else loves Valentine's Day?!
