wind blown

Instead of #workwearwednesday, this post should be called #windblownwednesday. This was a windy day and it took all the effort to hold down my top ( no wardrobe malfunctions here, please ), fix my hair, and stand still for photos. Miracles happen.

These pants are my newest purchase for work, but I kinda want to live in them. I was apprehensive when I picked them up because of the drawstring waist, howver, the material is so nice, the ties at the ankle make them look at bit dressier, and they have a higher waist. I wore them to work with this cropped peplum top and it was perfect for the end of summer. Also, I loved the way my navy velvet shoes looked with these pants. They elevated the look even more, it was so simple and understated, yet more unexpected than black or nude.

[ I'm wearing a small, they're a little loose in the waist, but I don't mind, the drawstring doesn't actually tighten, but I want to be able to front-tuck chunky sweaters in the fall / winter, so they should be perfect for that. ]

I hardly ever talk about makeup as I wear the same makeup like everyday, but I picked up one of these new lip colors from Maybeline and if you want a lip color that will s t a y. Go try. I got the orange / red in heroine.

old stone

If the first thing you've noticed is that the bag I'm carrying is not small and blush or a blush tote than you should be just as excited as I am. I really love buying bags that will last because handbags, like shoes, experience lots of wear and tear over time. But it also takes me a while to really find one that I want to buy. And I'll always choose shoes over anything else I think. Omg dream handbag? Chloe, maybe? Or Gucci.

This bag is by Steve Madden and I found it at Nordstrom Rack on a whim. It instantly reminded me of this one from Madewell that I've been wanting for years! So far I love it! It's a good size, really nice quality, and it comes in four colors! I love the wine, too!

I also wanted to mention these jeggings from Target. I showed them in a instagram try-on, and I love them! They are so comfortable and the zip detail on the legs make them interesting. I paired them with a short sleeve sweater and red sandals, but they'll look so cute with boots and chunky sweaters in the winter, too!

[ size down - they s t r e t c h. I normally wear between a 0-2 and I bought a 00 in these. ]

I'm obsessed with this church that's in downtown Tampa! Isn't it pretty?!

knot it

This white skirt has been on the blog before because it's actually a dress. Proving to be worth its weight in gold, its so twirly and unfussy, I can't go wrong whenever I slip it on. It's a tried and true fact that the LBD is timeless, a closet necessity. But I would argue that a LWD is just as important, for me it's probably more so as I gravitate toward light over dark.

[ see it styled differently here! ]

I'm still building up my corporate wardrobe. It's taking time because a. budget and b. I only want to buy pieces that have a dual purpose and that I genuinely love. This white dress has saved me time and time again by allowing me to wear it in so many different ways. The first time? I threw a blazer on with it. Classic + simple. This time, I layered a chiffon popover over it and knotted it to give it definition and turned it into a skirt. I'm not exactly reinventing the wheel here, but this dress falls so nicely and I instantly loved the look!

Taking the time to slowly build my workwear up has made me experiment more and while I wore this to work, I feel like it works just as well for a cute fall weekend look, too. Because, you know, fall is approaching and throwing a popover over a summer dress is a great way to be seasonally appropriate.

local gem

This weekend, instead of wandering around South Tampa or gravitating towards the water, I went to a local shopping center that's actually so cute and makes you feel like you're in Stars Hollow (hello, Gilmore Girls) or a really cute little seaside town. Without the sea. It has businesses, doctor offices, banks, but then it also has restaurants, a grocery store, Starbucks, and various other shops. All so cute. This is going to sound strange, but you should see the liquor store!

I posted a try-on session on my insta-stories and these shorts were featured. I love them! They're so comfy, perfect for weekending, but there's a dressiness to them. I think that's what I look for most in clothing. Can I dress it up? I love being comfortable, but I also need to feel put together. That's when I feel most confident. Overdressed > underdressed.

[ the shorts are full-price online, but I found them on clearance in store! ]

I wanted a soft and feminine look so I paired the shorts with an eyelet top and my new sandals that I've been wearing nonstop. I just picked them up at Target (do you see a trend here?) but I can't find them online yet. However, I couldn't recommend them more, so go check your store! I love the mauve with the blue and my plum bag and blush sunnies are fun compliments. By the way, I bought this Kate Spade bag last winter and it's easily one of the best purchases I've made. It's great quality, beautiful, and the plum surprisingly goes with more than you'd think.

less is more

I love a white top. I love a white top even more when it makes a statement. I really love minimal accessorizing and I easy outfits and this one fits in those two categories! I got this white top from the Anthropologie sale and it's still available! It's a thick cotton material and the sleeves are so fun! They're extra puffy and it's pretty glorious.

[ size tip: I went with a small, but I really needed an xs. It run's a bit big. ]

I wore this to work and paired it with black pants and my platform favorite wedges. My pop of color was my red lip in the shade Romance. It's such a pretty shade and a bright lip in general can make a neutral outfit more memorable. I left the jewelry off and went sans bag and let the puffy sleeves and red lip do the work. It's perfect for work or weekend wandering.

a well-brewed sunday

I have so much to talk about! First, the striped top I'm wearing in this post is my new favorite. I have quite a few stripes in my closet, but lately I've been really drawn to red and white! I picked up this tee at Zara and I'm so happy I saw this when I was in store because finding this online is like searching for a needle in a haystack! It's got a bit of structure, but also still weekend casual. I think I can also throw a blazer over it and wear it to work and it'll be a fun peek of pattern. As I've mentioned before, I like my clothes to be versatile, so I try to wear them for work and play if possible!

I've been eyeing these sandals because they're the epitome of summer and I've been wearing them constantly. They're so comfy and bright! I wore them with jeans and a white tee the other day and it was the best color pop! They are full price online, but I got them on clearance in store, so go check before you order!!

Next thing on my mind: coffee. I typically stick to Starbucks, they just don't disappoint. But lately I've gotten to try local coffee places and both have been amazing! When I lived in Savannah, the coffee kinda disappointed me. It just wasn't anything great and I was more than content with my usual Starbucks order. But today we tried Buddy Brew Coffee and omg. It was delicious and absolutely beautiful inside. Gorgeous white interior with black accents. Dreamy. I got the vanilla iced latte, which is my usual summer go to, and I highly recommend!

Also, fall is happening. I know this is supposed to be a happy thing, but I'll forever crave summer. However, I thought I'd share some of what's on my fall wishlist! [ until then, rainbow sandals #onrepeat ]

see you wednesday!

summer shimmer

I picked this top up in the Anthropologie tag sale a couple weekends ago and it's still available in all sizes! I loved it because the ruffles have a subtle shimmer to it, but I was unsure because it's such a think t-shirt material, it almost seemed like the ruffles belonged on a different shirt. But I actually really love it! It's so soft, flattering and pairs well with my favorite black flounce skirt! I wore this outfit to work, but I can't wait to pair it with jeans or shorts! I think it may eben look cute with white overalls!

[ size tip: at first I thought the xs looked too small, but the small just hung wrong. xs was a bit more fitted, but not tight. definitely true to size, if you size up, it might look a bit too loose and the ruffles need some structure with the fit since the material is thin. ]

I love this black skirt. It's easily one of the most versatile items in my closet and I wear it to work all the time. But wearing it outside of work is fun, too! The flip of the hemline makes it interesting and really flattering. I added my blue velvet block heels because shimmer + velvet = heart eye emoji. They're a deep blue and I love how they add a bit of lightness to break up the black.

garden party

Right now the only way to survive being outside is to find shade when possible because it's either crazy hot or raining. I will take this heat over cold weather any day, but holy moly. We found this cute little park and it was so quiet and shady and perfect for picnicking, playing with your dog, or bringing your book and reading for a little while!

This top. It's from Zara and it's dreamy. It's like wearing a fairy garden as a top. It's tulle. It's flowy and moves in the best way. And the embroidery is so pretty. I loved how it looked paired with some easy boyfriend shorts and red flats! The embroidery has so many colors in it, it would look amazing with deep blue shoes as well! I can't wait to wear it again and into the fall with jeans! I think I'll also wear it to work, maybe with a pencil skirt? For a statement top, it's so versatile!

there's also this one and this one!

nighttime beaching

Last week, my best friend texted me and asked if I wanted to go to the movies. It was the weekend and neither of us had any plans #grandmas. If there's a movie I really want to see, I love going, but I was feeling so restless, so I suggested the beach instead. It seemed like a great idea until we got there in the middle of a downpour.

It ended up being more of a night drive than a beach walk. And to top it all off, her sister got in a not so great car accident right at that moment, too, so we ended up having to rush back!

But then last Saturday we somehow ended up at the same beach, this time with clear skies and it was amazing. It's summer in Florida and the beaches are normally crowded with locals and tourists soaking up the sun and keeping cool in the ocean. But at nearly 11 o'clock at night, it was empty and eerily quiet. Perfect for thinking and talking. Another incredible factor? The stars. Whitney even saw a shooting star, I missed it but, still. Amazing, nonetheless.

If you're looking for a spot to think, have yet another endless conversation with your BFF of 15 years, or just listen to the waves. That's where you go. Until you spot a creature behind you because we did and then we hightailed it out of there because lord knows what it was and it was so dark that it was nearly impossible to see!

Whitney was saying that we're so fortunate to live in a place like this. People travel here to see the beach and stay for a few days to experience it and maybe they'll get to come visit again. But we can make the short drive whenever we want and enjoy it. We definitely didn't appreciate enough growing up and we probably still don't, but it's one of my favorite things about living here!

see you monday!
